Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik
Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik was appointed as Chairman of Amanah Raya Berhad on 8 January 2016. He also serves as Chairman of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee of Amanah Raya Berhad and Chairman of AmanahRaya Trustees Berhad.
Tan Sri began his career in 1966, when he served as the Assistant State Secretary of Negeri Sembilan. He was then appointed as the Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1967. Thereafter, he was promoted as Second Secretary at the Malaysian Embassy in Saigon where he was later appointed Charge de Affairs of the Embassy from 1969 to 1971.
From 1971 to 1979, YBhg Tan Sri served as the Principal Assistant Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Department, Director of Socio-Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department and Director of International Trade, Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Tan Sri began his political platform in 1980. He served as Deputy State Secretary for the Government of Selangor from 1980 to 1981. From 1982 to 1987, YBhg Tan Sri served as Deputy Finance Minister from 1982 to 1987 and thereafter, he was the Cultural, Arts and Tourism Minister from 1987 to 1999 whereby he succeeded in putting Malaysia on the world map and made Malaysia a destination for foreign travellers.
Tan Sri was also Member of Parliament for Temerloh for four consecutive terms from 1982 to 1999.
In the corporate arena, Tan Sri has been appointed as Chairman and Board member of various conglomerates which include Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, Priceworth International Berhad, Eden Inc. Berhad (also known as Eden Enterprises M Bhd), Pernas Trading Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd, Nudex Ventures Sdn. Bhd and IPTB Sdn Bhd.
He was awarded the Setia Mahkota Selangor (S.M.S.) and Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (S.D.A.P.) in 1982, the Seri Indera Mahkota Pahang (S.I.M.P.) in 1988, the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (D.P.M.S.) in 1992, the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (S.S.A.P.) in 1998 and the Paduka Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) in 2000.
Tan Sri is a graduate of University Malaya class of 1966 and subsequently obtained his Master Degree in Public Administration from the Institute of Social Studies, Holland in 1974.
