Kontena Nasional enters long-term lease agreement with AmanahRaya REIT
Leasing of warehouse complex in bid to further expand Kontena Nasional 3PL services
KUALA LUMPUR, 21 May – Kontena Nasional Berhad today signed an agreement with AmanahRaya Real Estate Investment Trust (ARREIT) on leasing of a warehouse complex in Port Klang, which is owned by Amanah Raya, for a period of nine years.
The warehouse identified as Lot No. 11614, North Klang Industrial is one of 15 properties managed by AmanahRaya REIT Managers Sdn Bhd (ARRM), fully owned subsidiary of AmanahRaya. It is also one of five industrial properties in ARREIT portfolio.
The leasing of the warehouse will contribute an annual rental of RM2.151 million for the first three years, about five percent (3.5%) of the total income received by ARREIT.
“With this agreement, it adds another reputable name in our profiles which will assure rental income for the next nine years, said Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Chairman, AmanahRaya-REIT Managers Sdn Bhd.
Kontena Nasional will designate the warehouse complex as “Kontena Nasional Distribution Centre 11”, housing 12 units of single storey warehouses, offices, cold rooms, temperature-controlled cool rooms, as well as open yard facilities.
With its strategic location of just one kilometre away from Northport and 20 kms from Westport, the warehouse complex will particularly cater to the Small Medium Industries (SMI), Halal and third-party logistics (3PL) markets that Kontena Nasional is currently targeting.
Hood Osman, Chief Executive Officer of Kontena Nasional said that the acquisition of the warehouse complex was in line with the Company’s 3PL objectives of enjoying cost-effectiveness, gaining access to the international market and offering comprehensive logistics solutions to new customers.
“Kontena Nasional has now increased its storage capacity and expanded its services without having to raise funds for construction of new facilities,” said Hood. “The Management’s vision is to increase its business activities and correspondingly its revenue, without additional capital investments,” he further added.
Among the current tenants at the warehouse complex are Gudang Damansara, Ikano, Rafsanjan Pistachio Producers, Milawa and Taskar Shipping & Forwarding. Besides continuing the offer of tenancy to the existing clients, Kontena Nasional hopes to also provide its logistics services to these existing tenants.
The services offered at this new facility will include warehousing, conventional transportation, container haulage, open yard services, fumigation, and other related activities.
Kontena Nasional will also offer Halal transport and warehouse services after the Halal status is obtained from Jakim. Currently, Kontena Nasional Petaling Jaya branch is a Jakim-certified halal transport and warehouse facility.
Following this signing, the warehouse complex will be refurbished to reflect Kontena Nasional’s stringent requirements on its facilities. Kontena Nasional’s management and operations of the facility will begin immediately after the refurbishment exercise.
In the meantime, the Company is expected to extend its services to Kontena Nasional Distribution Centre 11 and will explore further opportunities for this Warehouse.
